Nahr al-Jawz (Walnut River) is a perennial river in the Batroun District of North Lebanon. It originates in the highlands of Tannourine and flows westward through a steep valley before emptying into the Mediterranean Sea near Batroun. Stretching 32–38 km, the river runs over a limestone basin and descends from the Tannourine plateau across terraced hillsides until it reaches the coastal plain south of Ras ash-Shaq’a, near the historic Mseilha Fort. Along its course, it passes villages such as Kfar Helda and Batroun, supporting agriculture through traditional irrigation. Surrounded by lush greenery and rocky cliffs, Nahr al-Jaouz is renowned for its stunning natural scenery and peaceful atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for walking and enjoying nature.
